Incredibly cliché. If this is what it's like in your head you need to stop watching so much tv and a few less films too. Everything about it conforms to the tropes of "scary music", from the pointless reverb to the "spooky perversion" of a children's nursery rhyme. The creepy is commonly the unknown and the unexpected but any fan of the horror genre would have heard this concept 1000 times before.
Beyond that it loops okay and the mixing and panning was quite nice. Too short and simplistic to be off much merit though.

MrNumbers responds:

There is a reason things become cliche in the first place, indeed, and I really think I should have added this into the description;

You are right, your comment is actually exactly why I made this instead of something totally original. I'm using it for a Horror Comedy film I'm working on for school which parodies student films and the horror genre (Think the intellectual's Scary Movie), and I needed something original enough to be completely my own work but familiar enough that it's totally recognizable for what it is: An effective cliche that is overused in the horror genre.

I muchly appreciate your technical criticism past that, as that is EXACTLY the bigger issue I was worried about. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

The reverb made it a little hard to make out the lyrics and i don't think it added much to the song so if it was intentional i'd suggest removing or reducing it's strength. Other than that i thought the mixing was decent, the song had a very full sound that really wrapped around my ears. The singing sounds quite nice though the reverb makes it a little hard to tell how good it really is. Other than that the song seemed fairly generic but still mildly enjoyable. Not bad!

Jayson420 responds:

Thanks man, the mass reverbecomes from really late nights, for some reason when its late and im feeling a little stoney the reverb just sounds so good to me, but your right it kind of takes a way a little. I just make 1:30-2:00 songs that all sound weird and different, not all as generic as this I guess, but thank you very much for the review!

My winamp collection of FairSquare music is growing and growing! Another enjoyable cover though probably my least favourite song choice out of all the ones i've listened to. I can't really think of much advice to give other than a suggestion of perhaps multitracking the guitar with plucking as well as strumming all at once? Or perhaps adding some percussion? Anyhow, keep up the nice singing.

FairSquare responds:

You have a collection of my music? That's awesome :)
And that's a really good suggestion. Coincidentally, i talked with someone who proposed that i record me singing a song + playing guitar and he'd add more things around it (percussion, bass, maybe some synths). So yeah, good suggestion :)
Thanks for the review and i will keep up singing as good as i can :D

Well i see in the tags that you used musescore. Whilst i think it's certainly a good tool for composing pieces, for actual production i don't think it's too great. Try exporting the files as midis and then putting them into something a little more production friendly like garageband, fl studio or logic. The piece was interesting but a little disjointed. Why did each instrument have it's own little solo? It made the piece feel rather empty though it did make the ensemble at 1:41 sound refreshingly rich.
This sounds more like a bit of practice in melody and mode rather than a finished song and you have put any authors comments so i'm guessing this doesn't mean that much to you. Try spending a bit more time on structure and timbre and i think you could produce something nice. Good luck!

MacG88 responds:

Thanks for your advice. I realy appreciate it. You've got right, I starded to compose just few days ago and I'm still learning. I think that Apocalypse is better in form and better refined.

I really liked this, definitely not the type of music i expect to find on the AudioPotal, but then again it is a place full of surprises... And what a pleasant surprise this was! All the instrument sound very full and rich (with the exception of the piano which i disliked) and the composition was simply wonderful. I was grabbed immediately by the opening motif and when the counter melodies joined in i was certain the piece was going to be brilliant. The constantly changing melodies, the variation in instrumentation and even the changes in tone and mood were such a nice contrast to the repetition of other genres found here. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this, and have downloaded it to listen to add to my music library. All in all a really nice listen, and i thank you for sharing it!

Pointrick responds:

I'm a little late but thank you. I, too, thought the piano didn´t sound so good, but I wasn't so sure, as one of my friends once said he "especially liked the piano". Didn't understand that at the time and I still don't. Too bad I didn't finish this piece.

But thanks for making my day : )

Lovely! Unexpected dissonance that very nicely to create a dramatic chord pattern. The sticatto is nice and with the high tempo it grabbed me. When the bass notes come in at 0:10 i thought this was going to be something really great, they worked perfectly, but then you lost me a little bit with the arpeggio/melody part at 0:18, it felt a little tacked on, and like you hadn't really spent that long deciding which notes to use. IT works better as the other parts enter, and i was thoroughly enjoying it again at 0:40. It definitely shows a lot of potential, and as you say it's a work in progress. Keep it at!

bearskin responds:

Thanks for the review!

Sounds a little washed. The equalizing has lost all of the bass and might of the piano, it sounds so faded and distant. I also think it's a bit overkill on the reverb, again adding to this pallid feeling. That being said i do like the arpeggios, and the chord progression is enjoyable too. The change of tone at 0:36 is a little sudden, but definitely keeps the piece from becoming stale. I could definitely imagine it in a documentary, and composition wise it's quite a nice piece.

newhansen responds:

Thanks for taking time to review it! I know exactly what you mean, though the equalizer, compressor and reverb made the sound i was looking for closest. I played along with the effects but failed to filter the drowny sound. Still lots and lots to learn :)

No space

I hated the drums, very tinny sounding and lowered the overall tone of the piece. The high pitched voice-like synth was nice, and i liked the dissonance and spooky melodies. The bass was a bith thumping and a lot less subtle than the rest of the piece. The guitar at 0:34 was incredibly uninspired and could have just been left out entirley. I liked the riffs after that though, itneresting rhythms. It was an interesting listen but it lacked in many areas i think.

celldamage responds:

Thanks.

I removed the low pitches from the snare and hi-hat to try and avoid interference with the bass, but it probably wasn't necessary.

The reason for the middle guitar section was just to try and lead it in to the stronger final part, but you're right that it's uninspired, since it was all just made up on the spot. I might think of something better to put in the middle for a better version.

Well....

Well this defies any genres i know off, i'd probably put it in "miscellaneous" here. What software did you make this in? It has an interesting style.... However i can't say i enjoyed listening to it that much, it's a little TOO experimental, even for me. It defies all the norms of melody, tonality, texture, harmony, and song structure. The only think it conforms too is rhythm, but the thumping beat in the background only furthers it's inanity. I enjoyed the first 14 seconds, and the rest had a certain charm to it, but it's just so hard to follow. It's so unpredictable, i could never sing a long or hum the tune. It is what it is, i don't know what you were going for so i can't say if you succeeded. But it's definitely odd.

PolyVerse responds:

perhaps some of my other songs would suit you better. The glitch is more for people that want something crazy, doesnt make total sense, and is just totally new to the ears. I appreciate the review none the less, but please do check around my other songs and tell me if you find something more interesting
